The Living Art System
Core components and how they work
together.
What is Living Art?
Living Art is a new category of object at the intersection of fine art, living botanicals, and intelligent technology. It's a museum-quality frame system that transforms your wall into a dynamic, three-dimensional composition, where art and nature flourish together. Each Living Art piece combines an interchangeable Canvas (art), curated botanicals, The Loom (intelligent hardware), and Provenance (software) into a single, self-sustaining masterpiece designed to elevate any space.
What is the Loom?
The Loom is the intelligent hardware at the heart of every Living Art system. It's a complete, self-contained life support system, featuring a powerful motherboard, environmental sensors, silent micro-pumps and valves, and a motorized dual-zone lighting system, all meticulously engineered to disappear. The Loom makes the entire experience effortless, ensuring your botanicals receive perfect care without any visible technology.
What is Provenance?
Provenance is the intelligent software that acts as the "mind" of The Loom. It analyzes the specific needs of your Canvas and botanical arrangement, then directs The Loom's hardware to provide precisely calibrated light and water. Provenance ensures every plant receives tailored care, guaranteeing your Living Art flourishes effortlessly.
What is the Frame?
The Frame is the museum-quality housing that holds your Living Art composition. Crafted from premium materials with a timeless design, it serves as both the structural foundation and the aesthetic canvas for your interchangeable art and botanicals. The Frame conceals The Loom's technology while showcasing your Canvas and living plants in a sophisticated, gallery-worthy presentation. It's designed to be a permanent fixture in your space, built to last for generations.
What are the Atelier, Bespoke, and Signature collections?
These are the three tiers of Living Art, each offering different levels of customization and premium features:
- Atelier - Our foundational collection featuring premium craftsmanship and the complete Living Art system with interchangeable Canvases
- Bespoke - Enhanced customization options with premium frame finishes and expanded botanical selections
- Signature - Our flagship tier with the highest level of artistry, exclusive Canvases, and complimentary Vatalia Lifetime Care included
All three tiers feature The Loom, Provenance software, and the core Living Art experience. The choice depends on your desired level of customization and premium features.

Interchangeable art and curated
botanicals.
What is a Canvas?
A Canvas is the interchangeable, museum-quality art piece that serves as the visual foundation of your Living Art composition. Each Canvas is designed to work seamlessly with your botanicals, creating a dynamic three-dimensional artwork. You can swap Canvases anytime to refresh your space or match the season, making your Living Art an evolving collection rather than a static piece.
What's the difference between Renowned Master works, Vatalia Originals, and Emerging Artist Canvases?
Our Canvas collection includes three distinct categories:
- Renowned Master Works - Museum-quality reproductions of iconic works from masters like Monet, Picasso, and Van Gogh, sourced from open-access collections
- Vatalia Originals - Our own curated creations inspired by master painting techniques and contemporary artistic visions, designed specifically for Living Art
- Emerging Artist Canvases - Limited-edition works from visionary artists featured through The Vatalia Gallery (coming soon)
Each category offers different aesthetic approaches, allowing you to curate a collection that reflects your personal taste.
What are The Elysian and Ambrosia Collections?
These are our two curated botanical seed collections, named for mythological paradises:
- The Elysian Collection - Ornamental botanicals featuring vibrant flowers, textured foliage, and sculptural greens that create dynamic visual compositions
- The Ambrosia Collection - Culinary herbs including basil, thyme, mint, and other varieties perfect for cooking and adding fresh flavor to your kitchen
Both collections feature seeds pre-loaded with nutrients and optimized to flourish in the Living Art system. You can choose one collection or alternate between them seasonally.
Are the seeds included with my Living Art?
Yes. Each Living Art system includes a starter selection from The Ambrosia Collection and one Canvas of your choice. Additional Canvases and seed collections are available separately. Seeds remain viable for up to 6 months before planting.
Can I use my own seeds?
Our system uses a proprietary seed format designed specifically for Living Art. While you're welcome to experiment with seeds suited for hydroponic growth, results may vary. For optimal performance, we recommend our curated Elysian and Ambrosia Collections.
Can I use seeds from other hydroponic systems?
Our seed format is designed specifically for Living Art and is not compatible with seed pods from other systems. Vatalia seeds come pre-loaded with nutrients optimized for our system, while other hydroponic products require different growing media and nutrient delivery methods. For guaranteed flourishing, we recommend using The Elysian or Ambrosia Collections.
How should I store unused seeds?
Store seeds in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Seeds remain viable for up to 6 months when properly stored. For optimal germination and growth, we recommend using fresh seeds within this window.
Can I grow flowers or fruits in my Living Art?
Yes. Our system supports a variety of botanicals, including ornamental flowers, herbs, leafy greens, edible flowers, and select small fruits. Contact us at hello@vatalia.com for guidance on specific varieties suited to your Living Art.
How many seeds should I use?
Your Living Art accommodates up to 24 seed placements, though 12-18 creates an ideal composition for most designs. You can create a full, lush arrangement or use fewer seeds to complement your Canvas. Experiment with different configurations to find your preferred aesthetic.
Setup & Care
Installation, maintenance, and
daily use.
Is it difficult to install?
No. Your Living Art hangs like a traditional piece of art, you'll need a hammer and tape measure. We include a level with our mounting system to ensure perfect placement. The entire installation takes minutes, and once it's mounted, you simply slide in your Canvas and activate the system.
Do I need a sunny window?
No. The Living Art features a motorized, dual-zone lighting system that provides your botanicals with precisely calibrated light. You can place your Living Art anywhere in your home or workspace, even in spaces with limited natural light.
Will my plants flourish? I've never been successful with them.
Yes. Living Art takes care of everything, water, light, and nutrients. Our Provenance software and The Loom work together to create the perfect conditions for growth. Even if you've struggled with plants before, your Living Art is designed to flourish effortlessly.
What can I grow in my Living Art?

How often do I need to add water?
You'll refill the reservoir every 2-4 weeks, depending on your botanical selection and environmental conditions. An indicator light alerts you when it's time.
What if I go on vacation?
Your Living Art is designed for extended autonomy. The system can maintain your botanicals for up to a month without any intervention,—no plant sitters required.
Will it make a mess?
No. Your Living Art is a completely self-contained system that requires no soil. Everything remains sealed within the frame—no water spillage, no dirt, and no maintenance debris.
